Janneke Alkema GCF(APF) Adv.
Together, Janneke and her husband Geertjan started their framing business in 2007. Previously, she worked as a physiotherapist and as an assistant in Geertjan’s obstetrician practice. Initially, Janneke helped customers with selecting frames and did the administrative work and orders for the business. She also performed managerial duties at the business association in Schijndel and the Dutch national framing organization Art-Frame.
To expand her knowledge, Janneke decided to take the NIMETO framing course in Utrecht. She learned about the different aspects of frame-making and framing, including conservation framing. In addition to colouring frames, she also learned about gilding and mounting frames. After completing practical and theoretical lessons and an internship, her knowledge was tested and she was certified.
To provide good advice to customers, knowledge about the framing levels, proper techniques, and materials is important in the framing business. Janneke decided to acquire more knowledge and expertise. The Fine Art Trade Guild offered the opportunity to test this knowledge. Since passing her Guild Certified Framer examination, Janneke has further specialized and completed her GCF Advanced: Conservation Framing, GCF Advanced: Textile Framing, and GCF Advanced: Mount Design & Function
